Homescape Permaculture

Homescape Permaculture is a term Soulscape Gardens created to describe Permaculture principles in and around an urban or suburban home.  This idea includes water catchment, edible gardens, solar power, animals, and composting, to name just a few.  The philosophy is to think about a home as more than “a shelter” and the outside property as more than just “a yard”.

Edible Gardens

Soulscape Gardens implements the idea of using fruits (in tree or shrub form), medicinal herbs, and other plants that provide useful products, while bringing beauty and ornamentation to your landscape.  Edible gardens capitalize on the idea of getting more from one plant and maximizing its yield in both food and beauty.

Water Catchment

The roof of a home can catch a significant amount of water with very little rain.
(an example of this: 1 inch of rain that hits a home with a 1000 sf roof surface area will generate approximately 600 gallons of water runoff or potential catchment)  Harvesting and storing water can yield noticeable financial savings in water costs, while significantly reducing the environmental impact from water treatment.  There are many ways to catch and store water, but the idea is simple and sustainable.

Laundry to Landscape
Recent changes in California law have made it legal to take your laundry water and divert it to your landscape.  This one single change can maximize the water you use while reducing the stress on water treatment or costly maintenance on septic systems.
